Although parted by distance we stayed in touch over the years, often sharing laughter about our two mums who were sisters and how they tried to keep us both in order in our youth. My dear cousin enjoyed her sailing and always tried but failed miserably to encourage her ‘little cuz’ to keep fit. In your memory cuz I will try hard now. I hated to lose you but it is a blessing that you are out of pain and now at peace and with the Lord. From one Hawley to another, Love and prayers Muriel, I will miss you dear cuz, Jacky (Mitchell) , Edinburgh, Scotland

I met Muriel at a festival on Farmers Cay, Bahamas on the Fourth Friday in February, 1996. She was captain for a couple of bareboat charterers and I was on sebatical on my boat. We met and immediately became friends for life. We sailed together on my boat, her boat, charters, and deliveries on the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic ICW from Trinidad to Lake Ontario, Canada.
What a wonderful, brave, inspiring, fun woman.
Muriel and I remained friends for years and when I remarried she and my new wife Beth (above) immediately became friends. Through the years Muriel has visited us in South Carolina with both her wonderful friends June and Karen and we have visited them in Mississauga.
The friendship, experience, and caring relationship we shared with Muriel will continue to remain with us through our lives and we hope that we will be blessed enough to meet her again someday.

I met MURIEL about 12 years ago when she came to visit us in Rock Hill, SC. She had been sailing with Ned in the Bahamas years earlier . She told us stories of her adventures that would keep you up at night … Wanting to hear more! Her gift of recalling tales of the sea and her hearty infectious laugh will be permanently imprinted in my heart .
I remember MURIEL as being a sort of advocate to women – encouraging them to pursue their dreams and to live life to the fullest , to always be kind , and to never stop learning .
Muriel exemplifies the meaning of the word ” friend”. If Muriel was your friend, then she would never forget anything about you or anyone you loved . She became a member of your family . She would embrace your life and remain loyal to you . You couldn’t ask for a better friend!
I can’t say enough good about Muriel. She is such an unforgettable person . She may not be here in person now but her memories and her spirit will live in our life forever!
We will see you out at sea Captain Muriel!
    We love you!
