Laborcai, Eva

In loving memory of Eva Maria Anna Luisa (née Bittmann) (Philipp) Laborcai

With heavy hearts, the family of Eva Laborcai announce her passing on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the age of 95. Beloved mother of Ingrid Kudlich, Werner Philipp, and Ildiko Lorik. Cherished grandmother to 7 grandchildren, and adoring great-grandmother to 10. A woman ahead of her times, she achieved her Matura (Gymnasium) in Vienna with excellent marks at a time when Austria had one of the best education systems in the world, and women were still under-represented in academia. She led a beautiful, long life that was punctuated at times with tragedy including the loss of her first husband, the love of her life, who went missing in the war in the same week as her father passed away; the loss of her 2nd husband over 30 years later; and the loss of her vision in her later years. She was a beautiful, intelligent, strong individual who persevered and went on to graduate with a B.A from UofT at the age of 70. She always said she didn’t want to be called a “lady”, but she was a “gentlewoman” in every sense of the word, who had a passion for arts and culture…. and who loved her children utterly, completely, unconditionally. Special thanks to the staff at Wesburn Manor. At Eva’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Memorial donations to either CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) or Alzheimer Society Toronto, in memory of Eva, would be appreciated.

“We will treasure all that you have taught and given to us. We miss you and hold you dear in our hearts.”
